Get out and about with your best friend
If there is one thing I get a kick out of, regardless of the season, it's walking my doggy. Sadly, I have completely ruined her by rarely walking her on a lead and even worse, she is a complete lunatic near roads. With this is mind, I like to take her to dedicated dog parks so that we don't have to fight over which way we are going and how quickly, she tends to win.
This weekend I decided to give Mornington a go and found a great little park at 1 Billabong Walk. The dog park is set adjacent to a great little family park and lake complete with geese, so we struggled our way, on leash, to the nearest entrance, and in we went.
The first really lovely thing I noticed about this park is that it has been thought out, regardless of which entrance you use, the planners have put in a double gate system, this fills me with confidence because it means that when Cherry inevitably tries to follow someone home, she probably won't make it past the first gate.
The minute we got through the gates and my dog was let loose, off she went to explore at a million miles an hour whilst I brought up the rear at a much slower pace. I suppose what I like about taking her out to a dedicated dog park, is that whilst she gets to go at breakneck speed, I get to wander at my pace (much slower) but we can both get out together.
Walking around this park, it struck me that everyone was so friendly and whilst Cherry danced about with the other dogs and chased her way around, I got to chat with the other dog owners and enjoy the area. It really is a lovely little park, in one area there is a fallen tree sculpture and around it, plenty of grass for the dogs to run and play. You also get a good mix of big and little dogs which I think is nice for those with big dogs as I think sometimes they feel a bit out of place at some parks.
Taking your dog out to somewhere like Billabong Walk is such a lovely thing to do, I get that fuzzy feeling seeing my pup run around and enjoy herself, I love meeting new doggies and learning all about their breed and funny little quirks and I love chatting to the other doggy parents. I truly believe that getting out of the house and going for a walk is a great way to stay active at any time of year, but being healthy in my opinion is about feeding your soul also, and there is nothing like walking your dog to really fill you up.
