I know what you're thinking, why does a workout have to be so much work? By the time you get home from your job, there are all sorts of excuses jockeying in your head about how it would be so much easier to spend the evening just relaxing, de-stressing from your day, and that you'll go for a jog/ yoga/ boot camp tomorrow. I love ya tomorrow, you're always a day away ...

But what if your workout was so much fun that you looked forward to the class every week? That the instructor was friendly, happy and very cool, and that you're enjoying yourself so much you don't even realise that you are actually doing a pretty high end cardio and interval training session designed to blast the calories and make you feel amazing at the end of class?

One word. Zumba. You've seen the infomercials, maybe even spotted a class on a gym schedule, but if you're after an awesome instructor, I can thoroughly recommend the effervescent and energized Katie Wilson of Zumba Fitness who does classes at various locations in Perth and who brings it, with a joyous Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, feel-it-to-the-core Fitness Party.

I attend her class at the Harold Hawthorn Centre in Carlisle on Tuesday nights and it's a great space, boasting a raised stage so you can easily see Katie demonstrate the moves clearly.

Once the music starts, it's all hand signals which are actually very efficient in indicating change of direction and any turns, and Katie usually starts each class with a breakdown of a few of the more involved steps, just in case you're worried about what kind of coordination you might need. But really, all you need to do is keep moving, and if you love to dance, then this is the class for you.

With additional locations at the Bedford Bowling Club, Inner City Fitness in Maylands and the Beatty Park Leisure Centre in North Perth, do your fitness self a favour and check out some Zumba with Katie – a casual class is $10 or you can get 10 class pass for $80.

For those who are already Zumba insiders and want to try its next incarnation, Katie is holding a celebration of her second year as a instructor! The theme is 80's and you're invited to wear your craziest 80's get up with a prize for Best Dressed.

The superclass (held in Bedford on Monday, 4th and Carlisle on Tuesday 5th of June 2012) will consist of thirty minutes from special guest instructor Feisty, who will give attendees a taste of Zumba Sentao (a chair workout that incorporates lunges and squats), followed by a regular Zumba class after a fifteen minute break bringing it all home. Imagine how much birthday cake you can eat after that workout!

Cost is $15 casual or $5 with a class pass card.

Zumbawear will be available for purchase (cash only) and there will also be a massive raffle on the night. Check out the the location links for more info on Facebook, and to RSVP for either the Bedford or Carlisle events.
