Having spent most of Saturday grocery shopping and preparing for our camping trip the following weekend, neither my husband nor I felt like cooking. As a result, we decided to dine out to reward ourselves. So we got our trusty GPS and made our way to in Springwood.

On arrival, we were warmly greeted and ushered to our table. Menus appeared, water was poured and the friendly waitress took our drinks order. As this was a BYO restaurant, we both settled with soft drinks.

The menu was extensive and it took us a few minutes to decide what we really wanted. There were various entrees; pasta dishes; meat, poultry and seafood items; pizzas; risottos; and kids meals. One thing I did not expect to see was the paella, which came in three types: vegetarian, chicken and chorizo, and seafood. Intrigued, I asked the waitress about it and as soon as she told me it was the chef's specialty, I was sold. My husband the pizza fiend wanted Capricciosa pizza and we got king prawns to share as an entree.

The king prawns were cooked in some kind of tomato based sauce with butter and garlic topped with fetta. It's meant to have hot chilli as well, but it wasn't there. Nevertheless it was scrumptious. The sauce was flavoursome, garlicky, and cheesy. Just the way I like it! And we even dipped a few breadsticks into it after we polished off the prawns.

Our meals arrived simultaneously and we dug in straightaway. The paella had fantastic flavours and fresh ingredients. It was a bit moist and I expected the prawns and mussels to still be in their shells from my previous paella experience. But I didn't have to get my hands dirty, which was a plus. There were plenty of seafood and the serving was generous. It wasn't the best Paella I've ever had, but it was pretty damn good.

My husband's pizza, on the other hand, was absolutely divine. The amount of toppings on it was just right and it was baked to perfection. Just yum!

For dessert, I ordered tiramisu and my husband the pumpkin strudel. I must say the desserts were just as impressive. I really wished I had more room in my bloating belly to fit all of my dessert in, but sadly I had to leave some of it.

Overall my experience at Zafferano was fantastic. I was especially impressed with the beautiful presentation of each dish. With friendly staff, delicious food and wonderful service, there was nothing else that we could ask for. If I lived in the vicinity of a Zafferano, I would probably frequent it weekly.
