This year Off the Kerb Gallery is celebrating a whopping ten years in the arts in Victoria - a big round of applause please - and to celebrate this exciting milestone they are hosting a large scale charitable group exhibition entitled "Youth".

This group exhibition showcases the work of over 50 talented artists in a visual exploration of the concept of Youth. Youth is often seen as a time of innocence, freedom or naivety, or perhaps it was a time when your identity was shaped. Maybe your youth was a time of growth, development and change or a time that traditions, customs and social constructs had the greatest impact on you.

In their submissions for this show artists were asked to express their own versions of youth and as such the exhibition will feature a wide variety of works, including various styles and techniques including illustration, graphic design, street art and photography.

Not only does the exhibition promise to be a great way to enjoy amazing artworks, but it Is also an opportunity to support a fantastic cause, as Off the Kerb is generously donating the entirety of the gallery commission and all additional financial donations to support Red Dust Australia.

Red Dust Australia[/LINK] is a not for profit organisation which promotes the health and well-being of indigenous youth. They recognise that the lives of generations of indigenous Australians in remote communities have been greatly impacted by poor health. It is a shocking and sad reality that the rate of diabetes is six times higher in indigenous children than non-indigenous children in Australia. Furthermore indigenous adults die at a much younger age than non-indigenous Australians.

The goal of Red Dust Australia is to help break this cycle of poor health by promoting health programs and community development projects in remote communities of the Northern Territory, in partnership with the communities themselves. They encourage indigenous youth to learn more about health and make healthy lifestyle choices through the mentoring and influence of positive role models in sport, art, music and dance. Matt Adnate is one of the artists joining the Youth exhibition. Matt is known for both his incredible large scale murals all around the world and also for his striking portraits of indigenous Australians, especially children. Matt uses the medium of spray paint to create moving portraits to bring attention to issues and inequality facing indigenous communities. To see more of his work visit his website here. Matt has generously donated the stunning print (shown above) and 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the print will be donated to Red Dust Australia.

Another artist featured in this exhibition is Amanda Wright. Through her artwork Amanda explores her family history, her culture and connection to the land and seeks to express the power that indigenous Australians have. Through her bold and powerful portraits you can sense the pride she has in her heritage. You can see more of Amanda's work on Facebook here.

Robby Wirramanda is from Wergaia/Wotjobaluk country, in north-west Victoria, and tells stories of his ancestors through his art. For this exhibition he uses photography and carved wooden sculptures to express his perception of youth. The wooden carvings which represent Father, Mother and Child engage the viewer and to me they portray a sense of comfort and belonging.
