Yoga Made to Measure with Ilse Broekaert

There is an old maxim, "
when the pupil is ready, the teacher appears," and I am often reminded of this saying, especially when it comes to yoga.
Yoga teachers vary wildly in style and this is a great thing because people are wildly different. I find it bemusing that when I find a new teacher, I often resist their differing style until, with relaxation and presence I find, it is exactly the style I need.
When I first happened upon
Ilse Broekaert's class I was rushing, I was in the mood for a fast and powerful yoga because I thought that was what I needed. I wasn't getting much opportunity for a regular yoga class and I wanted to burn baby - well, more fool me!
Ilse's class was thoughtful, calm, relaxing and
wonderful. I didn't need a fast and furious yoga, I needed
this. For the first time in ages I was able to allow myself to sink deeply into every pose, breathing life back into every inch of my aching body. My muscles smiled, my spirit soared, my lungs filled with breath, and my mind was calm. I think I might have snored in savassana!
Afterwards I felt energised, relaxed and vibrant, and I have been back every week since. Ilse's style of yoga has allowed me to improve upon postures I thought I already had down, my body and mind have responded and each week I look forward to her class.
Ilse has a whole schedule of classes each week and she holds them in her home studio in
Lota, on Brisbane's bayside. Each class is tailored made to the individuals attending, whether they be dedicated yoga students, or complete beginners.
There are classes on each day of the week except Sundays and a selection of times to suit everyone's needs.
The full class schedule is

Ilse is more than happy to run classes at times that suit her students, and is always open to suggestions. She begins each class with a little quiet time where she will offer some insights into the teachings of yoga and bizarrely, each week's topic always has some profound poignancy to my life in that week. This gives the class a focus for the mind and the relevant poses and, for me, is a big part of yoga as a mindful approach to health and not just a physical pursuit.
