This May, the Wynnum West State School turns ninety-five and to commemorate this amazing achievement, the school is holding a fete on Sunday 21st May 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2.00pm.

Over-crowding of students in other schools in the area was becoming apparent and although there was no local paper at the time, residents canvassed the area to see if there was an interest in erecting a school to the west of Wynnum to cater for the required needs. It was noted that nearly eighty students lived in the area yet either attended other schools such as Manly, Tingalpa, Wynnum Central or did not attend school at all. The initial meeting was convened on Monday 13th November 1916 with the purpose of erecting a school on Brisbane Road Wynnum West. Land which consisted of nine acres was purchased on 10th April 1918 at a cost of 170 pounds. However, it was not until 12th November 1921 that approval was granted for a school to be built at a finished cost of 1442 pounds. At the end of first year, a total of ninety-seven students were enrolled.

The school was officially opened by the Minister for Public Instruction Hon J. Huxham on Saturday 8th July 1922 followed by a dance, concert and Euchre party costing the attendee one shilling entry fee.

The entry to this year's fete is free, however, there will be a cost to all children wanting to enjoy the equipment rides on the day.

Partytime Amusements are providing the children's entertainment with Cobra, Giant Swings and Slide, large Castle, an Obstacle Course, Barron Ride and Rock Wall Climb. Pre-sold armbands can be purchased on line for a cost of $29.00. These will only be available at this price until 5.00pm on Thursday 18th May before the event. It is important for all intending riders to read the terms and conditions and age and height restrictions on the website before purchasing an armband.

Other activities on the day will include prizes, raffles, food stalls, music, entertainment, outside market stalls and school stalls, Brisbricks Lego Display , Aussie Hot Rods car display and the school's memorabilia which will be displayed in the hall. The School Choir will sing three songs along with Prep to Year 2 and Years 3 to 6 also singing two songs. The Queensland Services Heritage Band Association (QSHBA), which includes FAD Cheer and Dance and Creative Dance Industries will perform dances to delight all tastes.

Free parking is available inside the school grounds with entry from School Road to the back oval.
