Isn't it great when you open your mail box and find (hidden between the bills and To the Resident junk) a handwritten letter? Snail mail may be a dying form of communication, but it's not dead yet. Help to revive this lost art by putting pen to paper.

Have you got a friend travelleing overseas or a granny who lives interstate? Skip the e-mail or Skype next time and write a proper letter. If you don't know someone who lives out of town, why not write someone a nice thank you letter? It could be an old school teacher who introduced you to your favourite author, a co-worker who always brightened your day, or a friend who helped you get through a tough time.

Remember that pen pal you had when you were in year four? Wasn't it fun learning about his or her way of life? Join PenPal World or Postcrossing to receive letters from all over the world.

If it's been a long time since you last used long hand, check out some of these examples for inspiration.

Writing letters can be just as fun as receiving them, so be sure to get some pretty paper, a funky pen and get writing. The sooner you start, the sooner you'll receive your reply.
