They say when you're on a good thing, stick to it. I often visit Melbourne and like to choose from many properties The Oaks Hotels & Resorts have on offer. Each have their own unique appeal, style and individuality.
Talk about making an entrance - literally. The moment I walked through the lobby area the first thing that crossed my mind was 'romance'. Architecture and design is distinctive state of the art. The lighting dim, yet welcoming, and the area designed in an individual way it felt as cosy as a cabin. Light from the lamp lit in the corner highlighted the bold striking furniture and decor. The two leather lounges facing the glowing fireplace created an inviting atmosphere where I could take a seat, enjoy a glass of wine, and admire the flickering flames.
A long carpet stretched from the front of the complex to the back, and brickwork stood out as a major feature of the property. Making my way to the one bedroom apartment, thick black drapes tied with rope gold tassel tie backs added opulence and elegance as I entered the lift.
Apartment complete with views, balcony and kitchen
The apartment is spacious and tastefully decorated - comfortable lounge, modern kitchen, and no expense spared in the bedroom with quality bed linen, pillows and mattress. Even with construction next door I had a restful night's sleep. The French style mirror added glamour, and the paintings highlighted interest and ornamentation setting tone and character. As I walked onto the balcony looking over Melbourne's skyline, I couldn't help but feel 'romance in the air'. For couples, this is a perfect romantic escape. Complete with restaurant, pool, sauna, gym, fireplace and balcony views, who would want to leave the premises?
I had to snap out of my Mills and Boon moment, as I was not there for romance. In fact, quite the opposite - to see Queen in concert at Rod Laver Arena.
Melbourne no doubt has a vibe. It's a place you can walk and admire everything in your path. A simple stroll through Southbank on the river and your spirits are quickly uplifted.
Taking a walk through Southbank will lift your spirits
Roving characters, musicians, restaurants and bars buzzing crowded with people is what makes this area so popular. On the other end of the scale, others preferred some down time on the riverbank reading a book, on phones and iPads, even couples enjoying each other's company - you notice so many different things happening in many different ways.
Looking for a breakfast spot on a cold Melbourne Spring morning, I came across the Left Bank Restaurant on Southbank Promenade. The stainless steel pyramid heaters with their open flames were warm and inviting, and the surroundings modern, chic and cosy. While browsing the menu I admired views of the river, Flinders Street Station, and the decorative plants placed in-between the heaters giving the place a unique touch. For a minute I couldn't help but think the 'air of romance' had followed me from The Wrap.
I ordered the Left Bank breakfast which included two poached free range eggs, bacon, tomato, chorizo, potato rosti, field mushrooms, spinach and baked beans.
A walk around Southbank isn't complete without dropping into Melbourne's Crown Casino. A few minutes walk from The Wrap apartments it's that massive it takes up several blocks. You can't help but get caught up in the glitz, glamour and luxury that Victorians are renowned for. They're gifted when it comes to doing things bigger and better than any other capital city in Australia.
The Crown Casino has bars, restaurants, shops and accommodation
As mentioned earlier, The Wrap is an ideal romantic escape for couples even honeymooners! There's no need to leave the premises if you don't want to as everything is under one roof. The restaurant area, complete with fireplace is an option for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
