Art by the River is on again at The Boatshed at Woronora and will once again be helping to raise the much needed funds for Hospital by the River (Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (Aust) Ltd.



The art show will feature an exhibition of paintings, pottery and jewellery of original works by palette knife artist Jim flood, potter Janet Flood and jewellery by Joy Flood for the young and young at heart.







The Exhibition opens on Saturday 25 March with a complimentary Devonshire Tea at 2pm where everyone is invited. While there you will be able to mingle with the artists and even buy you first piece.

The exhibition will be opened every day from 8.30am to 5.00pm and will continue to Sunday 9 April 2017.

If you are travelling from the west, you will need to travel along the Bangor By-pass and just after you have crossed over the Woronora bridge you will need to turn left into Menai Road and left again into Prince Edward Park Road. Travel about two kilometres until you cross the Forbes Creek bridge. Here you will see the boatshed on your right.

Coming from the south from Sutherland you will need to cross the Woronora River bridge and keep to the left-hand side. Once across the bridge you will turn left into Menai and then proceed across the old Woronora Bridge and turn right into Prince Edward Park Road. Travel about two kilometres until you cross the Forbes Creek bridge. Here you will see the boatshed on your right.



On Saturday the 1st of April at 3pm the Boatshed will be holding a fundraising High Tea, where all the proceeds will go to Hospital by the River (Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (Aunt) Ltd. Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is an organisation dedicated to restoring the health and dignity of women who have survived horrendous - and preventable – childbirth injuries: obstetric fistulas. The High Tea has been very popular over the years with live entertainment, lucky door prizes, home baked food and is excellent value.

Over the years, I have been to a number of exhibitions that have been held throughout the Sutherland Shire by the Flood family and they never cease to amaze me at the excellent work that they have created.

As Jim travelled throughout Australia he studied the landscape with its many hues and colours and has developed his own distinctive painting style. Jim's impressionistic, modern, traditional paintings, encapsulate the colours of Australia and reflect his great love of the land, sea and waterways.



Janet on the other hand commenced an evening pottery class for a couple of hours a week and from this TAFE course has blossomed into a self-sufficient potter, formulating her own glazes and firing her own wares. Janet is a member of Port Hacking Potters Group.



Joy Flood (daughter-in-law) has put her artistic talent and skills together to create delightful and colourful jewellery that will have you coming back for more. They are proving to be very popular with the little ones and their mums.



If you would like to learn more about the art of using the palette knife you can come along on Mondays and Thursdays and watch Jim demonstrating how he creates his next masterpiece.



Why not bring the family and friends along and make a day of it by having breakfast at The Waterfront Café at the Boatshed. They offer a wide range of delightful food, smooth coffee and a relaxing view while looking out over the calm waters of Forbes Creek.

After breakfast, you may like to go for a walk-through Prince Edward Park, have a fish in the Woronora River or hire a canoe or a kayak and paddle your way up the creek. They have also just acquired a paddle boat that would delight the children and their parents.
