If you are a news-o-phile, a keen photographer, or just love looking at great photographs then the
World Press Photo Exhibition should be on your todo list.
Get to the
State Library of NSW in Sydney before the end of May to see over 200 of the world's best media photographic images which have been chosen as the winners of the 2009
World Press Photo contest.
As listed in the World Press Photo website there are 10 categories to the contest which include:
“
Spot news, General news, People in the news, Sports action, Sports features, Contemporary issues, Daily life, Portraits, Arts & entertainment and Nature.“
Many of the photographs are horrific, harrowing and horrendous but also others, such as the Portraits, are quite entertaining.
Even Australia’s own photographer,
Mark Dadswell, is included as a winner in this contest and was awarded 2nd prize for the Sports Action Singles category.
This
World Press Photo Contest is an annual event which travels to over 45 countries around the world.
The exhibition is held in the Mitchell Galleries at the State Library of NSW, Sydney and is on until 31 May, 2009.
