Feridun Avar and Friends is an international group of master musicians who have developed a unique, individual performance to showcase the sounds of the Middle East. They have then added to this base with an original musical and cultural twist only possible when musicians from Africa, India and Iran work in equal partnership. On this occasion, Feridun performs with musicians from diverse musical backgrounds ranging from classical to traditional forms of music from all around the world. During the evening you will witness the seamless blending of styles only possible after years of experience, development of powerful skills and the passion to progress through collaboration, mixing and joining harmonies with musicians from around the world.

Feridun Avar was born in 1962 in Mus, a city of Eastern Turkey. His childhood and early adulthood were spent in Istanbul where he perfected his musical talents and skills. He is now a leading Turkish vocalist, saz and guitar player and band leader with many years of experience in Turkey and Australia.

Immigrating to Australia in 1990, Feridun has continued to collaborate with musicians from such varied musical backgrounds as classical English music to traditional Tibetan and Australian Aboriginal.

The Queensland Multicultural Centre (QMC) was established through a partnership between the State Government and property developers Australand at the front of the historic Yungaba site; the first point of reception for new migrants arriving by boat into Brisbane. Built to honour the site's historic significance the QMC provides a hub for celebrating Queensland's rich cultural heritage and diversity. The Centre consists of a mixture of offices and venue hire facilities all managed by BEMAC (Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre).

BEMAC is presenting the World Music Café series as a celebration of local, international and national touring artists. Each show presented is a collaboration between artists who create ground-breaking new material to be accompanied by delicious food from the origin of each artist; a unique opportunity to enjoy a night of musical and culinary cultures. Middle Eastern food will be available at the presentation of Feridun Avar and Friends.
