The Woodhill State School , situated just 10 minutes south of Jimboomba, dates back to 1873 when William Everdell, an early settler to the area, donated the land for the school to be built. He couldn't have picked a better spot to inspire generations of students who can relax in this gorgeous rural setting with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. As time has discovered, Woodhill is a wonderful school with a history and traditions of which its alumni is rightly proud. Their proudest boast though is that theirs is the only school where you can take part in, or just enjoy watching, the annual .

Almost since the school's opening day – well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's been for more than 20 years – this popular family event has attracted huge crowds to watch the Billy Cart racers compete for the King of the Hill trophy.

The is on again this year at the Woodhill State School, 6027 Mt Lindesay Highway, Woodhill on Saturday, 25 July, 2015. Gates open at 8.00am and the fun rolls on (pun intended) until 3.00pm.

You won't believe this but entry to the school grounds to watch this spectacular is FREE.

If you want to enter the Derby then you can select the most appropriate category and complete the entry form . Categories for the are:
  • 9 years and under girls
  • 9 years and under boys
  • 10 years and over girls
  • 10 years and over boys
  • Adult (18 years and over)
  • Open (Billy Carts that don't meet specifications)
  • Corporate (business/team entrants)

  • The entry fee for individuals is $5.00 per person (with a maximum of two people per cart), and $10.00 per corporate entry.

But the day isn't all about racing. There's also an extravaganza of children's rides, market stalls, food vendors, entertainment and a spectacular model railway exhibition that would do any 00-scale engineer proud.

There will also be Jubilee Entertainment's special event for all the kids with the widest range of rides at the very best prices. There'll be spectacular rides, classic carnival attractions, children's fairground entertainment with the central attraction being the fabulous Bumper Balls. These are the latest inflatable interactive attraction where players strap on large inflatable 'bubbles' and then go to town. They bump, smash, bounce, tumble, roll and flip all in complete safety.

To make sure your children get the best out of the rides on offer you can purchase their very own Ride Armband. With this, they will have an awesome time and you won't need to keep hunting for gold coins. They can bounce in the bumper balls and go down that super slide again and again and again.

Not everything on the day is for the kids. There are going to be stalls galore will all types of great handicraft treasurers. The real fun will be around the cake and sweets stalls – I'm not sure any diet will last the day when these little goodies go on sale.

You'll also be able to have a great meal and a coffee or soft drink to enjoy as you listen to the live entertainment, including the fantastic covers' band, Chester.

What a great day! The kids will be taken care of somewhere else, great treats to take home for later and a good meal enjoyed as you listen to live music – does it get any better?

Well, yes, it does. Did you know Gasoline Alley HOGs (Harley Owners' Group) will have a display in the grounds? Imagine that, billy cart racing, amusement rides, food, market stalls, live entertainment and a selection of beautiful Harleys to enjoy and drool over – heaven on earth!

The is so popular it gets people travelling from as far as the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Springfield and Ipswich. The Derby is also the school's biggest fundraiser of the year and all the money raised on the day helps the school buy essential resources and equipment. This is a real win-win; you get to enjoy all the fun of the fair, watch some billy cart racing or, better still, join in some billy cart racing, and, at the same time, help keep this important Woodhill State School tradition alive.
