Enter a medieval wonderland which brings the epic middle age settings of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones to life these winter school holidays!

The annual Winterfest Sydney Medieval Fair returns on the first weekend of July at a brand new location in the historic Hawkesbury region.

Now in its 11th year, Winterfest is Sydney's longest-running annual medieval fair and this year families can look forward to a jam-packed program filled with interactive displays, hands-on activities and a fabulous line-up of entertainment at Hawkesbury Showground.

Explore all things medieval and historic in a vibrant community setting - highlights include:

  • The Winterfest mounted Skill-at-Arms displayWatch the Knights and Ladies demonstrate their skills on horseback and see who has precision and skill to work with their horses, in sword, spear, lance and more.

  • Field & Fight displaysEnjoy the spectacle of historic groups and displays of skill in the combat lists, in fighting with arms & armour or showing skills with swords, fight skills and drills.

  • 'Medieval Kitchen Rules' Come and see some of the skills of a cook in ages past, where you'll see demonstration and preparation of meals, use of herbs and the skills needed to prepare a medieval foods or feasts.

  • Historical Equestrian Games Australia will be displaying some of the training both horse and rider go through in gaining the skills used on horseback, with sword, spear, lance and mounted archery.

  • 'Fairy Marie – Stories and Tales'Come and meet Fairy Marie, a magical regular at Winterfest, who is looking forward to entertaining children with tales and stories.

  • Birds of Prey – Full Flight Conservation Centre will enchant guests with the free flying birds of prey flight display, demonstrating the skills of a Master Falconer.

  • The Winterfest Joust Cheer for your favourite knight and their horses, with some of the best jousters in Australia as they cross lances in the spectacular Winterfest Joust!

  • The Grand MeleeThe final battle of battles! Clubs together to test metal and clash in teams and vie to be the best.

    Complementing the entertainment program is an exciting range of hand's on activities which allow visitors to get up close to customs, clothing and many other aspects of medieval daily life. Don't miss the Reenactors, who will bring along armour and helmets for you to try on; Feldergast the Fool - Winterfest's resident juggler, trickster, magician and all round festive Jester; interactive Celtic drumming and medieval handcrafts workshops; Medieval Archery; Kids' Corner with medieval themed colouring-in drawings and free face painting; Winterfest's always-popular Unicorns; Knights School where children can wield a sword and shield; Merchants' Row; 'The Mews' animal display; Medieval history shows and Artisan Alley, home to leather and wood-workers, armourers, costumers and many more talented artisans.

    Plus the immersive environment of Winterfest extends to a medieval-themed Cosplay competition. All eventgoers are invited to wear something a bit different from the usual. Get in touch with your inner orc, dwarf or elf and come along in a medieval-inspired outfit or fantasy-style clothing; all periods, cultures, and styles are welcome. Cosplay will be in a category of its own, with other costumes in a different category.
