Where the wild things are is right here. Well, kind of.
Wild Things – sculpture by Troy Emery is a kooky exhibit that combines taxidermy with bright colours, fringing and tassels. The show is one of the latest displays at
Metro Arts (
Level 2, 109 Edward Street), the inner city studio for independent artists.
Emery creates interesting juxtapositions by combining sculptures of wild animals with childlike craft materials, like panthers covered with pom poms and bears decorated with multicoloured fringing. In doing so, Emery challenges the meaning and allegory we assign to these animals by giving them 'unexpected roles' outside the 'natural order as we believe it to be'.
Troy Emery is a Sydney based artist with a Masters in Fine Art from the University of Sydney. Wild Things has previously shown at galleries in Sydney. You can take a sneak peak by visiting Emery's
website.
