Add bush vegetables to an Asian stir fry, or use indigenous herbs in an Indian curry, at this cooking school in the Gold Coast hinterlands.
Wild Lime Cooking School meets in the Wild Lime Cottage at Worendo Cottages (
97 Cedar Glen Road, Darlington). The school offers fusion cooking classes in which students are taught how to combine bush tucker components with Asian and Mediterranean influences. Learn how to use classic Australian ingredients like finger limes, wattleseed and lilly pilly fruits in conjunction with international cuisines.
Each cooking class starts at 10.00am and lasts for two hours (see the website for dates). Afterwards, the class will enjoy lunch accompanied with a local wine. In 2011, classes are dedicated to Vietnamese, Indian, Italian, Moroccan, Turkish and Spanish cuisines. There is also a bush picnic cooking class.
Classes are $430 for two people for a one night cook and stay package (includes cooking class, one nights accomodation and breakfast) or $590 for two people for a two night cook and stay package (cooking class, two nights accomodation and breakfast). Enclosed footwear must be worn to classes.
Worendo Cottages are set amongst the mountains of Lamington National Park and offer treehouse style accomodation with two bedrooms, kitchen, verandah and air conditioning. Other activities available includes bushwalks, olive picking, cycling, fishing and swimming in the nearby rock pools.
