Growing up in today's world is more challenging than ever. Many children today face risk factors of abuse, neglect or abandonment. It could be due to living with family problems of crime or physical abuse, drug abuse, influence from gangs, failing at school, stealing and sexual abuse or purely just depression. These children are more likely to commit a crime and often will end up in a Juvenile Detention Centre and if not helped will later commit further crimes as an adult.

The Bail Out is Whitelion's national fundraising and awareness campaign. It provides a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of a young person that has been disconnected from our community and really experience what they go through once in a detention centre.

The 10th Annual Sydney Bail Out in Sydney was held Friday 15th May at the chilling Yasmar Juvenile Detention Facility on Parramatta Road, Sydney. The Yasmar Estate was built in the late 1800s and later was used as a Juvenile Detention Centre for many years. Hidden from the main road, but for a set of heavy iron gates and surrounded by dense overgrown foliage. Guests immediately had an impression of what was once an Alcatraz type escape proof centre. The evening was a great success and guests walked away with a much better understanding and feeling good that they could support such a worthy cause.

The next events will be held in South Australia and Victoria:-

Adelaide Gaol is only 5 minutes from the city. An outstanding architectural monument, original cell-blocks, gallows, yards and prisoner graves create the perfect setting for a truly unique experience.

**Victoria: The Old Melbourne Gaol Watch House
Friday 29th May, from 5:30pm**

Near the corner of Russell and LaTrobe Streets, Melbourne VIC Contact: [email protected] or 03 8354 0811

This is the first time that Whitelion Bailout has held this event in Victoria. Apparently 136 executions by hanging took place in the Gaol, including the famous bushranger Ned Kelly. It was known to be overcrowded and was an extremely dark and difficult place for any inmate to experience.

This could be a great opportunity for you as an individual or as a group to make a difference to these children in need with much needed funds. No doubt you will gain a better understanding and a level of compassion you may not have felt previously.

You will need to raise $1,000 each to secure your participation. Check the website for details on how to register and state your bail. This is a theatrical type event, where you will experience the steps inmates go through for their incarceration and what else goes on while they are there.

This is an important event raising funds to help the organisation provide youth-focused gender and culturally specific services including employment, role modelling, specialist outreach support and education based prevention programs.

Check out their website for more details, if you don't with to participate you can donate. Bring your sleeping bag.
