Remember those
Where's Wally? books you read as a kid where you had to search for the stripe-wearing, adventure-loving Wally as he hid within overly illustrated pages among colourful characters and Wally impersonators? Creator Martin Handford sure did make it tough!
Over the years, Wally has hidden in Hollywood, been deep-sea diving, trekked through the jungle and wandered through worlds of make believe, and now, he's coming to Melbourne.
In fact, thousands of Wallys are expected to show up.
You see, on July 3rd, a
Guinness Book of World Records record will be beaten. (If the RSVP list on the event's
Facebook page is anything to go by, we've already got it in the bag.) But it all comes down to fun-loving Melburnians like you.
The aim is to gather at least 1,053 Wally doppelgangers in the same place to beat
Canada's 2009 record of 1,052. You finally have the chance to don your own Wally-chic red-and-white striped shirt, bobble hat, glasses and cane and break a world record while you're at it.
It's a free, all-ages event, and there's no need to book. And this really is a case of "the more, the merrier" so bring your friends along.
All you have to do to participate is show up, in costume of course, at the
Carlton Gardens at midday.

pompom hat, too.
But there's no need to go crazy. I have my own costume almost sorted: blue jeans and a red turtleneck with white duct tape for stripes; quick, easy and cost-effective.
C'mon Melbourne, let's show those Canadians what we're made of!
Tip: Don't dress like any other character - it must be Wally to be counted.
