Where to Get Fish & Chips @ Sandgate

People come to Sandgate from all over Brisbane, as it is such a gorgeous bayside suburbs. As with most seaside suburbs, fish and chips are one of the most popular menu items for waterside dining.

So let's take a look at some of the popular places around Sandgate where you can grab this sort of grub.

Doug's
One of the long standing locals, located along Flinders Parade, just off the corner of Second Avenue, Doug's is popular, has efficient service and offers good fish and chip options.

Salad options are available for meals or as sides, and you can choose 'garden' or a 'greek' salad. Doug's also offers a variety of hamburgers. Conveniently located across the road from the waterfront you can dine at Doug's on premise, get takeaway or walk across the road and sit at the waterfront under one of the shelter tables. Doug's also has a good selection of sweets to have with tea or coffee afterwards for sweet tooths.

Fish on Flinders
Just down the road from Doug's, still on Flinders Parade, Fish on Flinders offers similar fish and chip options, although limited salad selections. However two points of difference for Fish on Flinders are;

1: homemade pumpkin scallops are available here, as well as the common potato scallop.
2: they offer gluten free batter, cakes and biscuits, allowing them to claim a small 'niche' in the area.

It's always good to see a place offer something a 'little different'. Additionally Fish on Flinders has a much larger outdoor and undercover seating arrangement, better for accommodating larger groups of people.

Shelly's Inn
Around the other side of Shorncliffe, and located along cabbage tree creek, Shelly's Inn has its own character. Also popular in the area for fish and chips and consistent in quality with its local peers.

Nice outdoor seating area on a verandah, which also spills out onto the pavement with views over Cabbage Tree Creek. There is usually plenty of activity to watch along Cabbage Tree Creek with people fishing, kayaking or boating.

Full Moon Hotel - Shorncliffe
Surprised? Yes, this is one of the best pub/restaurants around Sandgate and although it isn't a 'Fish and Chip' shop, for some time they have been offering Fish and Chips on the menu with two different options. (see below). Having eaten here on several occasions, and having tried the fish and chips, it has always been 'fresh and superb'.

The two options are; Beer battered fish and chips, or daily fish (usually grilled). The fish on offer changes regularly, however they may offer anything from Snapper, Salmon, Orange Roughy, Barramundi, Trevally or whatever is good and fresh at the time.

Since the Full Moon is a restaurant, the other offerings are typical tasty restaurant style meals, including steaks, pizzas, beef pies, salads, burgers and 'board specials'.

A couple of other local options for Fish and Chips include the 'Pacific Fish Bar', (Wakefield Street, Sandgate), Brighton Fish & Chips, (Beaconsfield Terrace, Brighton) and 'Fishmongers' on Flinders Parade Sandgate.
