Greasy burgers and chips dominate fast food- but for those of us feeling the need for some nutrients, they really don't satisfy. Some fast food outlets offer healthy choices, but a limp salad covered in gluggy salad dressing isn't too appealing either.

The popularity of chains such as Subway, Sumo Salad and Healthy Habits means that now there are plenty of nutritious options in our food courts and shopping strips. Tasty as these may be, anyone who has tried to negotiate an overflowing sub will know that they can be difficult to eat without having lettuce spill out the sides.

Mmm... healthy fast food. Photo credit: Wesley Fryer.

I think one of the greatest healthy foods which can be easily purchased from any food court is the sushi hand roll. Contained in a tube of seaweed, it is unlikely that the filling will escape into your lap. Their bite-sized width makes them so much easier to eat than a sandwich, and the range of fillings at even the smallest sushi stall means there are options for meat-eaters, vegetarians and seafood lovers. Most stalls seem to have crispy chicken rolls- great if you want something fried, but don't want to get an entire quarter chicken from the greasy stall next door.

What do you order when you want fast food that's not too unhealthy? Let us know in the comments.

I love SaladWorks. Salads made to order right in front of you, with a huge range of fresh, healthy ingredients. You get to pick exactly what you want, including which dressing and how much. I hate how pre-made salads are usually drowning in so much creamy dressing that I might as well eat KFC!

Nando's has grilled chicken that is prepared without frying, and is very flavoursome and juicy. You can order a salad with it, or corn on the cob.

I think it really depends on what you class as healthy. For those of us who don’t class bread and such as healthy, only Subway salads and things count. Also, the dressings at some of those gorgeous salad joints add a lot of fat to our meals :(

I am loving Healthy Habits new Roti sandwiches. Although they are not the healthiest option they are still a better alternative. Also,my local fruit and veggie shop sells fruit salad and Greek yoghurt to take-away (similar to your uploaded photo). Yummo!
