The best weekends at times do not involve attending theatre, art and cultural events even though this is a beautiful thing about living in our awesome city, Melbourne.

Whether you live in the Hawthorn area or elsewhere in Melbourne, why not spend a bit of time in the friendly, laid back inner city oasis that is known as Glenferrie.

Catch a Metro train from any one of the city train stations (except for Flagstaff Gardens) and arrive at Glenferrie train station - on the Alamein, Belgrave and Lilydale lines, and you will be in this oasis in no time. Or catch tram 16 which runs along Glenferrie road.

The visit to Glenferrie is not complete without a visit to Glenferrie Gourmet Meats at 720 Glenferrie Road where you have the opportunity to sample a variety of gourmet sausages such as rosemary and chicken cooked by someone who is friendly and always has a smile on his face. You will be amazed at how fresh and well presented the meats are, and you can also buy some yummy yoghurt sundaes and pestos as well as picnic items to enjoy in one of Melbourne's beautiful parks.

My favourite items (apart from the gourmet sausages) are the Chicken Parmas, and I never leave Glenferrie without buying a couple of these from high energetic enthusiastic staff who love to be of service to you and engage in pleasant conversations with you, making your weekend that much more enjoyable. Many of the customers of Glenferrie Gourmet Meats reckon that these staff are filled with protein due to the abundance of energy and passion they have for their jobs and for fine food.

Finally, a visit to Glenferrie is not complete without a visit to My Red Shop which stocks affordable homewares. A great place to buy pretty unscented candles and tea lights if you love to create an oasis of relaxation in your domain. And once again the staff are very friendly and really appreciate your business.

Glenferrie needs to be visited at least once to be appreciated.
