What Plant Where? at Hyperdome Library
Do you remember the very first house warming gift you received when you moved into your own home?
I do. My parents presented me with a copy of the Yates Gardening Guide which in those days was considered the Gardener's Bible. This was a book full of information about fruits and vegetables, when to plant particular flowers, insects and pest control, and the best manure for your garden bed. Indeed, the Yates Garden Guide remains in publication today, though my own copy is in near pristine condition.
You see, I have always been a fan of native trees and shrubs, rather than vegetables and pretty garden beds. I love that natives provide homes for our local marsupials and an array of blossoms for our beautiful bird life and creatures. I love that if a native is planted in the correct position then they require no maintenance. I particularly love that there is little need for nurturing, nor pesticides, and no "feeding"of compost.
If you are looking at enhancing your surrounds come along to a presentation by Dr Nadir Runkowski as he demonstrates how to use the free GroNATIVE app which will help you select the best natives for your local area.
This app was created by Natura Pacific and Griffith University and will illustrate the wonderful diversity of native plants.
So BYO Smart Phone or Tablet along to the Hyperdome Library at 66-70 Mandew Street, Shailer Park, on Saturday, 26th August, between 10am and noon.
This event is FREE and bookings are essential.
A free plant will be available for each participant at this session. How good is this?
