Artists travel far and wide for a source of inspiration, I say inspiration is not too far from home. You don't need to experience France to know the French and you don't need to live in Italy to taste good food.
Melbourne, the most cultural city in the world has everything your heart can desire. Here are a few reason why I think our Quasi Niche city is so damn special.
Milk Bars; we have one on just about every corner. More than just a place close by for emergency needs but also a great incentive to exercise.
Zines; Probably the only city in the world that rewards unpaid creativity. Where else would you find an unpublished handmade magazine left lying around in different places in the city, made for only the mere pleasure of writing and drawing and the promise of public pleasure.
Pizza shops; with the largest variety of Pizza's Melbournian are spoilt for choice, not to forget that they are practically everywhere and open till crazy hours.
Alleyways; for the strangest reasons we have glorified alleyway lifestyle to the extent that high end restaurant and fashion boutiques have situated themselves in these little nooks. Not to mention that hoses in the city's alleyways are highly sought after and very expensive.
The Yarra; once a river that was used as a sewage drain, it's now the heart of the city and one of Melbourne's highest tourist attraction.
Shuffling; we like to invent fad here in Melbourne, get really good at them and show off our skills in night clubs dedicated to this new tradition, then we go off being addicted to something else. It's all a part of our impatient nature but that is why our city is so alive.
Bushfires; with the threat of a bushfire every summer you really get to see Melbourne people's spirit and sense of community. The Melbourne average Joe or Joette is always more than happy to help and with over 60 000 volunteers for Fire Brigade Victoria, we can say that the people of Melbourne are brave and loyal to their home.
Four Seasons; I'm not talking about the Hotel or the Album. This refers to Melbournians leaving the house with up to four layers of clothing everyday because even if you get fooled by the sun in the morning, you know it will be windy at midday and rainy in the afternoon with a little sun coming back up just before sunset.
Football; why is it that despite there being AFL clubs across the border, that every year a Melbourne club hold the Trophy. I'll let you figure that one out.
So with all this to inspire you why would you think to travel to a city that probably only has one thing to offer.
