Did you know that a humpback whale can weigh as much as eight elephants? According to one of Mills Charters' deck crew, the power generated to do a breach (leaping vertically upwards from the water and spinning in the air) is equivalent to about 500 people at a speed of 10 kms/hr.

Watch my personal video below showing an adult humpback whale breaching during my whale watching cruise with Mills Charters.

Whale watching is one of the tourist attractions in Perth from September to December each year. Mills Charters operate Whale Watching cruises every morning during the whale watching season, leaving Hillary's Marina at 9:00am. Additional tours are available in the afternoons at 1:30pm every Saturday and Sunday. The cruise is about 3 – 4 hours long.

Mills Charters recommend that passengers take seasickness tablets during the cruise. After having experienced a wind speed of about 18 knots, which creates moderate waves on the sea, I would recommend seasickness tablet, too. A wind stop jacket can be very handy just the same.

A guaranteed whale sightings is an assurance. However, in the event that whales are not sighted during the cruise, whale watchers get another cruise, free of charge. Mills Charters overall success rate for sightings is 98%, and they achieved a 100% success rate in 2009.

It is indeed a breathtaking experience when whales are sighted within the caution zone (the area between 100m and 300m of a whale). Why not include whale watching in your adventure list to do.
