Come and find your ancestors
More than one third of the population of Western Australia emigrated here from overseas. Coming from countries far and wide, migrants were keen to start a new life in this lucky country. Perhaps your family was among them?
The Western Australian Maritime Museum, located at Victoria Quay in Fremantle has a fantastic community display called the Welcome Walls. These walls are a wonderful lasting monument to honour the people from many different countries that now call Western Australia home.

The Welcome Walls of Fremantle were built as part of the 175th Anniversary Celebration of Western Australia in 2004. They were intended to be a one off project, but had such a huge public response and became so popular that they are now a permanent outdoor display.
You can search through more than four hundred panels containing thousands of names and maybe find the names of people you know or the names of your very own ancestors.
