Paul Noble - Cathedral
Cathedral in "Welcome to Nobson

The Gagosian at Kings Cross is part of a chain of galleries, most of which can be found in the US (New York especially), and this one tends to specialise in Enfant Terrible and subversive modern art.

Their latest exhibition is by Paul Noble, a Northampton born artist who has exhibited at the Tate and Whitechapel Gallery.

"Welcome to Nobson" is the final stage of a fifteen year project to map the imaginary Nobson Newtown, the history and growth of which is detailed in the whimsical 1998 book of the same name (Salon Verlag, 1998).

It features sculpture as well as graphite drawings of this phantasmagorical landscape. Imagination, architecture and painstaking detail all feature in this "visual articulations of the tensions between disorder, perversion, and logical schema" (according to the Gagosian's description of it.)

Welcome to Nobson
Welcome to Nobson weirdness

As you'll see in the image above, this is surreal art, with a perverted and perplexing sense of humour. It runs till December 10th if you fancy a look.
