A farmstay near Brisbane that ticks all the boxes
At Wattle Gully Retreat, country cottages are set in tranquil bushland teeming with wildlife and farm animals. Breathe in the fresh country air and re-connect with nature and the family. Sit back on the porch with a nice cuppa, relax and watch the birds and wallabies go by. Let the kids experience a slice of farm life and run free on 50 acres of farmland.
The hosts, Farmer John and Rita are warm and friendly. The kids will delight in jumping in the back of the ute to go for the morning animal feeds. Meet Charlie and the other geese – they can be a noisy bunch. Watch out for the alpacas - depending on their mood, they might kiss you or spit at you! In the afternoon, you can feed the chickens and while they are busy pecking away, try your luck in the hen house. You might just end up with fresh eggs for breakfast.
After the animal feeds, do as much or as little as you like. Relax in your cottage or enjoy a picnic by the creek while the kids play in the tree house. If you are feeling energetic, a short bush walk will lead you to the waterfall. In the evenings, you can toast marshmallows in the outdoor fire pit (weather permitting) and let the hustle and bustle of life melt away. If you are looking for more things to do, you might like to visit a working dairy farm in the nearby town of Maleny. Australia Zoo is also a great place to take the kids.
Just ninety minutes from Brisbane, Wattle Gully Retreat is the perfect place for a weekend escape. Beechtree cabin is a two bedroom, self-contained cottage perfect for a family of four or five. While rustic and cosy, it provides all the essentials, including a full-working kitchen. The Rosegum Cottage is suitable for smaller families or couples. If you require something bigger, the Farmhouse has six bedrooms.
