Let me guess, you made a New Year's resolution to get fit and healthy right? And you really, really wanted to do it but somehow you broke your resolution even though January wasn't even over? But that need not be the end of the story until next year - take up the Water Challenge this March and do some good for yourself and others at the same time.

WaterAid is the charity behind the Water Challenge and their mission is to bring safe water, sanitation, and hygiene to the world's poorest. 650 million people in the world are without safe water. One in three people in the world lack adequate sanitation. Almost 900 children die each day from diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. It is incredible to think that the things we take for granted are still causing so many easily preventable deaths. The Water Challenge is WaterAid's annual fundraising event to help continue this crucial work. Just $70 can help provide safe water for a child.

The Water Challenge asks you to drink only water in March and raise money for safe water projects through sponsorship. So if you were hoping to kick that caffeine addiction, give your liver a break from all the festive alcohol you consumed, or get off the sugary juices and soft drinks then here is your chance to do it with the added incentive of sponsor money to make you stick with it! Even better, join as a team and encourage each other while having some fun.

This year there are multiple ways to participate in the challenge. You can go for the full 30 days in March, or if you have commitments that prevent you from doing the full 30 days, start at anytime in March and complete 14 days.

And before you say I can't drink plain water for 30 days, you can jazz up your water and make it interesting. Get creative and add strawberries, mint, cucumber or lemon or try the Apple Cinnamon Metabolism Boost drink (water infused with 1 sliced Fuji apple and 1 cinnamon stick for an hour) .

If water is not your cup of tea for whatever reason, there is also the 10,000 steps (or more) a day challenge from the 20th of March to the 24th of March.

It is free to register for the Water Challenge and there are also some prizes up for grabs. To find out more about the challenge, or to register yourself and your team, go to www.waterchallenge.org.au. You can find out more about the WaterAid charity at www.wateraid.org/au.
