New York City may not be one of the first places you think about when you think of water sports and activities. However, the city abounds with many ways to enjoy the surrounding water. After you have visited one or more of the venues offered, you will come away with a new perspective of the city and its surrounding harbors and waterways.

One of the many things to do on the water while visiting the city is to take a sightseeing cruise. To see the magnificent skyline of Manhattan a sunset or dinner cruise is the way to go. Aboard the dinner cruise passengers can enjoy a gourmet meal and live entertainment while gazing at the skyline. A sunset tour gives a view of the city as the sun sets on the many skyscrapers.

Sailing around the Statue of Liberty aboard a 1920's era sailing vessel is an experience that no one should miss. The 1and 1/2 to 2 hour cruise is a relaxing way to view the Statue of Liberty the way many immigrants saw it as they came to this country. A night sail is an excellent way to enjoy a drink without visiting a crowded bar.

The New York City Water Trail is a great way to visit some of the quieter places in the city. This trail is connects 160 miles of rivers, bays, inlets, oceans and creeks and can be accessed by canoe, kayaks or other non motorized water craft. Some of the things that can be seen while on the trail include bird sanctuaries, marshes, city skylines and parks. This is a relaxing and quiet way to see a side of New York City that many people do not know exist.

For a different and thrilling way to get around the New York Harbor a speedboat ride is the way to go. For 30 minutes this vessel will combine a roller coaster, water ride and high speed cruise all in one. The ride includes loud and fast music, Comedy provided by the captains and even a photo stop at the Statue of Liberty. This adventure will appeal to children as well as thrill seeking adults.
