Located at the centre of Ratpakinai road, and therefore just down the lane from where I am staying, is this rather lovely Wat which I've walked past many times and only recently explored further.

It is known as Wat Pan Ping or Wat Ban Ping and has a beautiful large golden Chedi or stupa and a couple of nice temple buildings with artworks telling stories of the life of Buddha.

The original temple is said to date from around the 13th century, but lots has been added over the years. It is one of many temples that were established within the old city walls of Chiang Mai.

This image shows Buddha Shakyamuni meditating under the Bodhi Tree with some deer watching on the other side of the river, perhaps representing the time he gained enlightenment.
