Beer lovers in Wandsworth and the surrounding area will be pleased to hear that
a three-day beer festival is on its way, beginning 27th October.
The enormous choice of beers the festival will be offering could mean that Wandsworth boozers will be quieter than usual as drinkers head for the beer extravaganza instead.
Held at the spooky looking
Le Gothique restaurant and bar on Wandsworth Common, the location is perfect considering it takes place close to Halloween.
Great tasting beers from microbreweries located across the country will be showcasing their best brews over the course of the festival.
Organisers say that visitors will be able to try around 90 different real ales with an alcoholic strength of between three and ten percent - so if you're going to have one of each, you may want to spit not swallow.
If beer isn't your thing but you still want to go along with some beer-drinking buddies, fear not - there'll be some 20 ciders and 20 wines waiting to be tasted too.
Featured breweries in attendance include
Ballards Brewery from near Petersfield in Hampshire;
Dark Star Brewing Company from Horsham in West Sussex;
BrewDog Brewery from Fraserburgh near Aberdeen;
Sarah Hughes Brewery from Sedgley near Dudley; and
Shepherd Neame from Faversham in Kent.
If you're coming along on the Saturday you'll have the chance to enjoy a five-beer tutored tasting with
Melissa Cole, author of Let Me Tell You About Beer. Tickets for this event cost £10 and include a book signing.
Beer (and cider and wine) can be enjoyed with a range of live music entertainment - on Friday blues maestro and top slide guitarist
John Crampton will be doing the honours, while on Saturday the
Jo Burt Experience ("Nashville rock with an English accent") will be doing its bit to keep the crowd on its toes. Just be careful not to spill your beer if you find yourself getting into the groove.
The
Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival 2011 runs from 1pm to 11pm on all three days, with entry costing £4, or £2 for
CAMRA members.
