On Sunday 1st March 2015, the Wallington Strawberry Fair is the place to be if you like anything to do with strawberries!

Wallington, which is a small town on the Bellarine Peninsula, close to Ocean Grove, holds its' annual Strawberry Fair - a festival of food, music, market stalls, strawberries and children's activities on Sunday 1st March.

Come and try fresh strawberry based food and drinks at the Strawberry Fair. This is the 31st annual Strawberry Fair at Wallington. It is a major fundraiser for Wallington Primary School.

You can purchase homemade strawberry jam, my favourite - strawberries and cream, choc-dipped strawberries, strawberries and pancakes, Devonshire tea and even pavlova and strawberries. Tempt your taste buds, try different strawberry foods and drinks and it's all for a worthwhile cause - Wallington Primary School. There will be other gourmet food and local wines available too.

Experience some entertainment while you try the strawberry delights. The line up includes Ethan Karpathy - from the Voice Kids, Dazzling Dan the Magic Man, Tayla Haigh - local singer / songwriter and singing teacher at Wallington Primary School and more.

There is lots of other entertainment for the whole family: pony rides, a mobile petting farm, lucky dips, show bags, a giant auction, poo lotto (I don't know what poo lotto is, so if you read my article, and attend the strawberry fair, please leave a comment at the bottom of my article, so we all know what a poo lotto is), and lots of market stalls.

What a great day out, strawberries, poo lotto, a giant auction, a petting farm and entertainment from some very talented locals. There is plenty of off road parking. Please leave your dogs at home.

A gold coin donation for entry to the fair goes towards the fundraising for the Wallington Primary School.

Stay Local - Use Local

The Strawberry Fair has a policy of using local products and local stall holders where ever possible. Stallholders use recycled packaging materials, where possible.

The Victorian Strawberry Development Corporation supports the fair. Local business and the school rely on profits raised at the fair to provide additional funds for school facilities and projects.

The fair is a Waste Wise event, aiming to reach new goals to divert our waste from landfill.

History of the Strawberry Industry

The strawberry industry in Wallington dates back to 1881. When the Wallington Hotel was for sale in 1881, several acres of strawberries, assorted varieties, as well as 3000 fruit trees, were included in the sale.

You could purchase a plate of strawberries and cream for sixpence a plate, from the Wallington Hotel, in 1884. The strawberries were grown on 5 acres of land at the hotel, and were the red and white variety of strawberries.
