Who would have thought it? Little green men, not from Mars, but from all the corners of the globe are set to invade Sydney.

It is a celebration of flashers, not just men but women as well, who stop traffic in their own cities.

It is those little green men that tell you when you can walk across the road and it is a universal language.

Walking Men Worldwideâ„¢ will be on banners on some of Sydney's main roads as part of Art & About Sydney.

It is a photographic collage of 99 different pedestrian traffic light from all over the world including Cannes, Tokyo, Mexico City and New York.

Each city tends to represent the little green figure differently.

In Odense, Denmark, for example, the figure of Hans Christian Anderson decorates traffic lights. While in the Utrecht, The Netherlands, the children's book character Miffy has appeared in traffic lights.

Chief artist Maya Barkai , said: %%"The project is a collaborative effort of international photographers who have each added a piece from their own neighbourhood to the collection of images that together form our world."
%%
It has also been a program that has featured at the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art in Russia and the Bat Yam Biennale in Israel.

The program will run from the 20 September to 20 October 2013 so look out for those little green men. They are worth crossing the road for.

Not sure if they will be showing the one below but this is my favourite little green man in all the world. Must be seen to be believed.
