Prems, premmies or premature babies are babies which are born early, prior to 37 weeks gestation. Walk for Prems is an annual walk that is dedicated to fundraising for the Life's Little Treasures Foundation. This foundation is Australia's leading foundation dedicated to supporting the families of premature babies and sick babies. In Australia alone, there are over 40,000 premature or sick babies born every year.

The flagship event is at Melbourne. It is also simultaneously held around Australia in Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide and Launceston. To participate in the event you need to register on the website by the 17th of October. If you are unable to get to any of these locations you can still participate in the walk, a pack can be requested from the website.

On the day, runners and on the day registration is opened from 8am. After the walk, around 12 the entertainment begins. The registration fee allows you to participate in the walk and any of the activities. These include face painting, amusement rides, sausage sizzle and a dove release. Once you register, you can also help raise funds through getting your family, colleagues and friends to sponsor you. The times are for the Melbourne and Brisbane walks with all other walks starting at 9:30am.

This year the foundation aims to raise $250,000. Over the last 3 years, the foundation has raised over half a million dollars. Life's Little Treasures uses that money to provide parents and families with premature or sick babies with information and support services. These include a 24 hour parent support phoneline, information apps and training volunteers to assist parents.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Life's Little Treasures. The organisation began when a parent group of parents, who had premature infants, decided they needed to act on the lack of support that they received. Their situation instilled the belief that families of premature and sick babies should have easy access to critical information and community support. Their goal is to ensure that families who find themselves in this traumatic situation are given a helping hand.
