The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University is a well-known performing arts training organisation that has a history of producing graduates who go on to achieve great success in the field of their choice. Hugh Jackman, Frances O'Connor, Marcus Graham, William McInnes, Lisa McCune, Lucy Durack, Rachelle Durkin, Emma Matthews, Jamie Oehlers, Eddie Perfect and Tim Minchin were all former WAAPA students. WAAPA prides itself on its reputation for artistic and academic excellence.
Each year students and staff at WAAPA create and present over 300 public performances. Many take place at Edith Cowan University but an increasing number are taking place in external venues due to community partnerships.
WAAPA in the Park is an annual event that WAAPA puts on once a year with support from the City of Stirling. WAAPA in the Park will be held in Ron Stone Park in Mt Lawley on Saturday the 25th of March 2017 from 7pm to 9pm.
This year, WAAPA in the Park will be celebrating ten years of free family entertainment. Enjoy performances from the musical group that Phat Funk Band and WAAPA's Jazz and Contemporary musicians as they play through a selection of old and new funk, soul, pop and jazz classics. Bring a picnic rug and a hamper and arrive early to get a good spot.
