If you think family cinema goers are a dying breed, think again. Village Cinemas' newest concept; Vjunior, is now open for business, and is set to reel in movie loving families far and wide.
Vjunior, in collaboration with Mattel's Hot Wheels, is Australia's first movie theatre designed by kids, for kids. The cinema, found in Westfield Southland's Village Cinema complex, combines two things that kids love; movies and play time.
Your movie session begins with interative play, up to one hour prior to your movie screening. Play time takes place in the foyer with;
Hot Wheels activity tables
Mega Blocks wall
Scrabble wall
Colouring in, a selection of artworks are then projected onto the big screen prior to the start of the movie.
Inside the movie theatre, there's a dance floor near the big screen. Anyone with kids will know, at the end of a child's movie screening, little ones make a beeline for the front of the cinema to bust some moves to the music played in the credits. Kids (and adults) visiting Vjunior can dance on an actual light up dance floor!
The
pièce de résistance, and big wow factor for Vjunior, is the huge slide set up to the side of the movie theatre, starting from the top row of seats right down to the bottom.
You're probably wondering, how kids aren't distracted by play time during a movie? Well, the slide is only open before the movie begins, and during a 10 minute intermission, in which kids are encouraged to get up and stretch their legs, go to the toilet, and socialise. The rest of the play equipment is outside in the foyer, encouraging kids to play prior to the movie screening and not during.
Seating in Vjunior is varied. Kids can choose to relax on a red lounge chairs in the front row, mold into a yellow bean bag seat, otherwise join their parents in the more traditional cinema armchairs at the rear of the theatre.
Vjunior is a completely child-friendly cinema with modified volumes and lighting levels, a shorter pre-show, and an intermission. A new kid's menu offering child-friendly eats accompanies a coffee cart for parents to enjoy.
Book in for a family visit, or consider Vjunior for your child's next party venue; party packages are available.
A big thumbs up to Village Cinemas, paving the way for the future of children's cinema experiences in Melbourne, and hopefully beyond with Vjunior. This is a welcomed and novel way to get families into the cinema, and enjoy everything we love about the Big Screen. Bravo.
