Be a part of the fun of excitement of celebrating Christmas eve at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for the 76th annual Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight . It's a great opportunity to get your family together and enjoy an evening under the stars with a picnic dinner and a fantastic atmosphere with some of Australia's best performers keeping everyone entertained.

Last year we made it a night away in the city and visited the Myer Christmas windows, Epicure Gingerbread Village, looked at all the decorations and trees from horse and cart and finished our Christmas themed visit with a night at Carols by Candlelight inviting some family and friends to join us. Although we have small children and they were absolutely delighted with our Christmas stay, it was also one of the best Christmas' we have had. It gave us the opportunity to relax and enjoy the festivities and get into the spirit.

In our experience with Carols by Candlelight if you don't have seats in the stalls or the boxes you need to arrive not long after the gates open to secure a position on the lawn that isn't too far away from a big screen. You will still get glimpses of the stage but it's still too far away to see most of the singers clearly and last year they had problems with the sound system so it's definitely best to get in early.

If you can't be bothered with a picnic there are quite a few food stalls with various options available, there are also ice cream and drink vendors throughout and special candles for the night can be purchased for around $5.

As far as who will be performing on the night is still not known, however Anthony Callea and Rachael Leahcar have been announced as this years ambassadors. Going by previous Carols by Candlelight, the line up of entertainers is always strong. Last year saw Delta Goodrem, Anthony Callea, Tim Campbell, Shane Jacobson, Lisa McCune, David Hobson, Sarah de Bono, Hi 5 along with many others.

What some people may not be aware of is that you can buy tickets to the rehearsal and see all the performers on the 23rd of December at a fraction of the cost of the main event. Gates open at 4pm and the estimated finish time is 11pm. Tickets will be available in early December from Ticketmaster and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Tickets for Carols by Candlelight on Christmas Eve are on sale now through Ticketmaster . Tickets cost $65 for general admission on the lawn, $140 for families of 4 and concession is $35. For seats in the stalls it's more expensive at $170 (set price for adult/child/concession) and $85 for box seat tickets.

The best part about the entire event is that the money raised from the event goes directly to Vision Australia's children's services, to read more about children you're helping click here .
