There is something ultra-exciting about a new cinema opening up in your part of town and when it is a Gold Class one, let the fanfare begin.

At last Werribee and surrounds have a special local place to go for date nights, anniversaries or just to treat someone special such as Mum on Mother's Day.

The new Village Gold Class opened on June 3rd and is part of the massive $370 million redevelopment that will make Pacific Werribee (the old Werribee Plaza) a premier regional destination for retail and lifestyle experiences.

The new Gold Class has two theatres with luxurious electronic reclining seats, super-wide wall-to-wall screens and the latest in digital picture and audio, yet all in an intimate setting.

You are ushered into a beautifully decorated lounge with a classy bar full of enticements at the other end.

Give in to temptation and have a glass of champagne while you look over the vast menu to make your selections for a meal or nibbles to be brought to you during the movie.

Having not been to Gold Class for some time what surprised me was the menu.

To my delight this Gold Class caters for vegetarians, people wanting low or not gluten and dairy free options.

While I am none of those things it shows some care that this cinema recognises people's food intolerances and is going out of its way to provide alternatives.

What I have not liked about Gold Class in the past was the fried food, which seemed quick and easy and to be honest, more like "food court" than "Gold Class."

Gosh have things changed. How about Tasmanian salmon on Lebanese lentil salad, pumpkin and chicken tagine, fish tacos (snapper, coleslaw and chipolata mayonnaise) or slow smoked Memphis style baby back pork ribs with BBQ dipping sauce?

And the desserts are really special. I will have to wait until next-time for this experience, but I heard the rocky road popcorn (dark and white chocolate, caramel popcorn, melt-in-your-mouth marshmallow, cashews, pecans and sea salt) was simply amazing.

I did however have the lemon cake, which is apparently a low gluten option. This was a rich lemony cake topped with a coconut white chocolate truffle (that had to be tasted to be believed) and raspberry coulis. Thoroughly memorable.

Lindt chocolate also gets a grand appearance on the menu. There are Lindt inspired profiteroles filled with chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries and sprinkled with Lindt flakes. Or how about a Lindt inspired thick shakes, such as Lindt peanut butter and banana, Lindt cappuccino which you can add Kahlua to if you wish and Lindt salted caramel with chocolate flakes, caramel syrup, sea salt and vanilla ice cream.

Cocktails are $30 for two, which isn't too pricey as cocktails go. Everthing from a ginger sling and Long Island iced tea to a Toblerone which has chocolate liquer, Frangelico, and Amarula.

Mocktails are also available. For the full food and drink menu click here. I had no idea that Gold Class menus varied so much but Werribee has a particularly good one.

The food arrives as if brought in by a magic genie. Reclining in your seat, sipping your cocktail, a tray soundelssly arrives in front of you with your lovely food and drinks.

There are also call buttons that dimly light up just in case you want the genie to bring you another drink.
