So, let's get this straight. You like your orchestra to play music you recognize, and perform with energetic physicality and a spot of humour. Well then, this could be the show for you.
Russell McGregor leads in Stehgeiger style
Following their sell-out Australian tour in 2011, the Austrian-based Johann Strauss Ensemble is set to tour Australia's south-east with
Vienna On Fire, led by Melbourne's own Russell McGregor.
Vienna On Fire will feature the popular waltzes and polkas of Austria's Johann Strauss and his sons Eduard and Josef, including Beautiful Blue Danube, Wiener Blut, Bandit's Galop and Thunder and Lightning. The program will also include Josef Strauss' Fire Proof Polka, featuring Russell McGregor playing an anvil as percussion.
Playing the anvil
Johann Strauss Ensemble perform in the original Stehgeiger style used by Johann Strauss himself, where the leader is both conductor and soloist.
The
Johann Strauss Ensemble was established in 1985, and features 22 world-class musicians from the Bruckner Orchestra. Their Australian Tour will run between 16 – 21 July 2013, and will take in Sydney, Penrith, Melbourne and Geelong with only one opportunity in each location:
