Where's Victoria's Best Fish and Chips?

The hardest thing to find is a great fish and chips shop with fresh fish and seafood where you can see what you're getting upfront and is reasonably priced. Considering the average serve of fish and chips has a high calorie intake you don't want to waste it on something that doesn't taste great.

On my recent travels up the East coast I reckon I have found the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. It probably wont come as a surprise to many when I tell you it was at Lakes Entrance. Considering that it's the largest commercial fishing port in Victoria with over 100 trawlers catching more than 4.5 million kilograms of seafood each year and the fish and chip shop is owned by the fishing co-op. I think it would be hard pressed to get fresher seafood, that is unless you caught it yourself.

So what's the name of this place I hear you asking? It's called Omega 3 fish and chips and is located in the shopping plaza across from Safeway ( behind McDonald's) in Church St, Lakes Entrance.

We ordered flake and scallops with chips and although the chips were good, the seafood was magnificent. The scallops were sweet and juicy and better than any I have eaten at any restaurant. As for the fish it was chunky, succulent and cooked to perfection, it just fell apart.

I wished I had ordered more variety now or had a car fridge to take some of the fresh seafood home to cook up.

Prices are average with a piece of flake being $5.90 or a twin pack of two flake and chips with tartar sauce and lemon for $12.90. Scallops are $1.30 each or you can get a six pack of scallops with chips, tartar sauce and lemon for $8.50.

Whilst Lakes Entrance is not just around the corner for most of us, we will have to enjoy it when passing through next.
