Having searched high and low for two weeks to arrange a group dinner for my group's Christmas 2013 get-together event and I was having a really hard time finding a place that provides a new setting, the right atmosphere and some great new foods to share. So obviously, when I stumbled upon during a search on UrbanSpoon for the category of CBD dinner restaurants, I was ecstatic.

While I was unsure whether to make a booking, I took a leap of faith in user reviews and made a booking for 7 people. The booking was made online on the Victoria Room (website link) and all confirmations were done through emails and SMS. There were highly positive reviews about the restaurant and the restaurant description itself which boasted to be "an ultra smooth dining establishment...decorated in British-Raj style...exudes bon-vivant chic".

operates as a high tea restaurant during the day on the fourth (4th) level of its establishment and romantic dimly lit restaurant with a cocktail bar for dinner. Having booked for the dinner session, I found myself walking into a hotel-esque establishment hidden neatly in the village of Darlinghurst, which is accessible by bus from Museum station. I was greeted by a glamorously dressed host who confirmed my booking and took myself and my group to our table, presented us with our menus and introduced us to our waiter for the night. Although we had to adjust to the different lighting structure of the restaurant, it was all very breath-taking.

One side of the room was a cocktail bar and drinks area that made me feel as though I had just entered the set of Gangster Squad. The cocktail bar and round table with lounge chairs, covered in green leather, was behind a series of screens that were barely noticeable, paintings, lush palms and rich wallpapers which fused the refreshing feelings of night time garden party with the sophistication of high class dining.

While waiting for our friends to arrive, we decided to 'flip' through the menu to see if there was anything we could decide on, especially drinks. After a while and unable to decide on what drinks to get, we headed over to the counter and asked for any recommendations.
The bartender showed us a number of drinks items which we could share but we decided on 'Punch Makes You Wiser", which serves 4 people and gives a fruity yet zingy taste on the tongue. The punch was shared between four of us.

Two other members, who drove that night, decided on English Rose and Shirley Temple, which in my opinion, tastes a lot like Ginger tea.

Onto food, we seriously had a hard time deciding on what to eat so we could try all the food and not overlap with each other. Turns out, as our waiter explained, the food was designed to share.
So we decided on the Charcuterie Selection, Prosciutto Di Parma, Wagyu Bresaola, Cacciatore, Chicken Liver Parfait with Pickles, Preserves & Grilled Sourdough ($24);

Roast Cauliflower, Charred Peppers, Almonds & White Anchovies ($14); Free Range Chicken, Buttered Chokos & Garlic Chives ($26); Slow Roast Pork Belly with Sweet Mustard Glaze ($28);
and Lamb Loin, Smoked Eggplant, Burnt Onion & Labne ($32).

These dishes were ordered to share between six (6) people. I would definitely recommend the Charcuterie Selection as the parfait was creamily delicious, the pickles were just lovely and sourdough was so good we had to ask for extra.

Overall we had a pretty good time at The Victoria Room, I would really love to come back in the day time for High Tea too. I would really imagine this would a good place to bring a first date or go on a blind date as you'll always be sure to have something to talk about, e.g how hot Ryan Gosling/Emma Stone looked in Gangster Squad.

NB: has now updated their drinks and food menu, but the classics are still there.
