Valentine's Day Ideas

Home > Things to do in Brisbane > Fun Things To Do

Chocolate, candles, flowers and romance – hallmarks of Valentine's Day, the celebration of love and lovers. Looking for a way to say I love you but not sure where to start. Never fear, here are some tips and tricks to having a wonderful Valentine's Day with your special someone.

Start with some idea of what your partner is interested in – it's a guaranteed failure to suggest to a sports hating girl that an evening in with the Best of World Series Cricket is a great way to spend Valentine's Day. Try suggesting a movie like Casablanca or another choice from Screencrave's 16 romantic movies that a guy won't hate.

A partner who likes nature may find a host of romance in a moonlight picnic on the beach or a twilight picnic at any of Brisbane's beautiful nature spots including Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens or Roma Street Parklands.

Restaurants book out pretty early for the night for lovers so why not have a romantic feast at home. Light some scented candles, get a babysitter for the kids (if needed), play love songs in the background and impress your special girl or guy with your cooking skills. There are plenty of websites and cookbooks devoted to showing you step by step how to cook the perfect meal.

Write out some love notes and love quotations on hand crafted heart shaped paper and hide them around the house and throughout the day your loved one will find heartwarming signals of your love. If writing and craft are not your strong points, make a slideshow of images of the two of you set to your favourite music. If you want to make your love declaration public, why not post it on youtube or facebook.

Although Valentine's Day is all about the couple, singles don't need to hide away at home despairing whether they'll ever find love. Why not take the opportunity to gather together all your single friends and have a party (with no couples) to celebrate everything that's fun about being single or create your plans to ensure that next year you're using the Valentine's Day tips above!

I think the nicest thing to do for Valentine's Day and other anniversaries and such is to make something for your partner that comes from your heart.

The regualar presents that people get are teddy bears and cards, yay. We have all seen and gotten those before, but have you ever gotten something that your partner made especially for you and just for your liking or style? I think that is my favourite sort of present and especially on Valentine's Day which is a day to express your love and another day to get romantic and take advantage of it ;)
