The banks of the River Torrens at Vale Park are playing host to a new community based project - the Wildflower Walk.

There are over 100 locally native orchids and lilies, all planted and cared for by the dedicated volunteer members of the Vale Park Our Patch group in an effort to bring some species back from near extinction.

Farming and urban development have significantly reduced the variety of wild native orchids.

The group have reintroduced nearly 20 different varieties. The wildflower walk features many species including the very rare King Spider Orchid and nationally threatened Silver-Leaf Daisy.

The Wildflower Walk is located on the slope beneath the car park on the Vale Park side of the Ascot Avenue/Lower Portrush Road bridge over the River Torrens.

The Wildflower Walk marker post is also unique, it's been made from 120 year old timber, recycled from the Moonta Jetty.

Colourful information pamphlets are available on site. It's all free, there for everyone to enjoy. Get outside, go for a walk, take the kids, have everyone learn something wonderful about nature!
