Settled beside a busy intersection in Canley Heights, V Lounge provides a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of life outside, providing beverages, ice creams and a range of desserts to satisfy those sweet tooth cravings.

The walls are coated in dark colours that contrast with the red lounges and cushy chairs. The menu is written in chalk on a large blackboard, with artistic drawings of people enjoying cocktails by the beach. As someone who loves a café with a comfortable lounge, this café was welcoming me in with open arms. With large windows and an open front, V Lounge is filled with natural light.

Increasingly it seems that table service is becoming a thing of the past, accompanied by juke boxes and vinyl records. Many of the cafes I've been to lately have a "come to the counter to be served" policy, and V Lounge is no different. Whilst there are menus on each table, people are expected to wander to the back of the store where the register is to place their orders. This is not terrible, however it is a pity that the art of waitressing is slowly disappearing from our cafes. The abruptness and expectation on the customer to do all the work can come across to some guests as laziness, and perhaps even rudeness by the wait-staff. During our visit we weren't treated like royalty, but we were served and our food arrived within a reasonable timeframe.

Walking up to the back counter to order is a more helpful exercise in this case. Not only do you burn a small number of calories during the walk (burning any number of calories is helpful when you're about to indulge in sugar and fat-filled treats), but you get the chance to inspect their ice cream cabinet. Filled with a range of flavours, the ice cream & gelato cabinet stocks your standard chocolates, choc mints, rockmelon and passionfruit and more fun flavours such as Snickers. Great for snacking on as the weather warms from winter to summer.

Another delicious delight, one which I was very happy to have ordered at my table, was the deep fried ice cream. Packaged in pastry and wrapped like parcels, the deep fried ice cream looked more like two sausage rolls covered in caramel sauce. The flakey coconut taste of the pastry, combined with the creamy and cold vanilla ice cream within just hit the right spot. The fried ice cream also came with the option of getting green tea sauce or taro sauce to accompany. We opted for the safe and sweet choice of caramel. The main downside to this dish was that it ended after a short while. I would have happily kept eating it for a lot longer.

Unlike some cafes, the prices don't come as a shock when you open the menu. Our table ordered several scoops of ice cream, an iced coffee and the deep fried ice cream and the price was quite reasonable, adding up to about $40 for the seven of us. You could be easily satisfied and receive change from a ten dollar note if you were after a good serving of ice cream or a delicious drink, or even some fried ice cream to satisfy on a Sunday afternoon.

There is a big issue with parking in Canley Heights however. Being on a busy corner, the junction of two main roads, parking is limited. During the week there are time restrictions on parking, and unless you are lucky, you could be walking from two minutes up to ten minutes from your car to V Lounge. There are small free car parking stations in the side streets leading off Canley Vale Road, but people are often fighting for spaces in these. It can be tricky to find parking unless you're willing to get some exercise and burn some calories.

Fairfield City Council have introduced a free shuttle service that takes people from around the Fairfield and Cabramatta area and passes right through the main strip of shops in Canley Heights. This provides a good alternative to battling for parking. A timetable for the free Cabramatta Shuttle Bus can be found heref . Alternatively, a train to Canley Vale or Cabramatta train stations will allow you to catch a connecting bus. Try catching the 805 Oliveris Metrolink bus, or the 817 Westbus to get you there.

If you're looking for a comfortable and affordable place to rest and relax with friends and family then I would highly recommend giving V Lounge a visit. You will be pleasantly surprised with this little gem hidden amongst a sea of Pho and Thai restaurants, providing a place to congregate in Canley Heights.
