Finish work at 5.30pm. Change into something sporty. Leg it along to Paternoster Square (but not too quickly – you'll need to conserve your energy). And join a new kind of gym that's come to town.

We're talking about Urban Gym. Urban Gym incorporates things on the street such as stairs, benches, railings, brickwork, walls.....if there's something that can be used in a workout, Urban Gym will make it happen. And you'll get fitter in the process.

The fully qualified Urban Gym fitness instructors promise you'll burn between 550 and 1000 calories per hour-long session, at the same time improving core stability, joint strength and dynamic power. Your aerobic capacity, stamina and recovery speed will also be enhanced.

The street circuits cover about 3km and involve jogging between challenging but manageable workout sessions at "exercise hot-spots".

And don't be shy about exercising in public – you'll be in a small group and many of the hot-spots are away from the crowds. If anything you'll likely inspire others to put down the bag of chips and slip into a pair of trainers.

The instructors prefer to call it "an adventure" rather than "a workout", and try to throw in a few surprises along the way. Not quite knowing what's around the next corner is half the fun.

Everyone is welcome, so even if you're more of a wobbling Weeble than an Olympic athlete, you can still go along and do things at your own pace. Of course, the experience is designed first and foremost to be enjoyable while helping you to get into shape.

There are various payment options though you can get the first session for free. Book a place using Urban Gym's online form here.

Meet new people, enjoy the great outdoors, engage with your environment and above all, get fit. You might never bother with a conventional gym ever again!
