Queens Parade certainly has an array of great cafes to choose from, and two:bob, which opened up in 2011, does not disappoint. The decor is fresh and airy, the service is friendly. We chose to sit outside on one of the three long wooden tables - perfect for people watching.

The coffee is excellent, the menu is creative, and ideal for health-conscious types. The corn and coriander fritters are nicely done - too many places nowadays are deep-frying their fritters to the max, which makes my heart rate go up just from looking at them. Not so at two:bob.

The smashed avocado and feta is a winner as well. This time around we tried the sauteed kale and mushrooms, and the chowdown.

The kale and mushroom dish with poached eggs has an interesting mix of flavours, and it's gluten free. I am a keen bread-eater, but it's refreshing to have a great brekky every now and then that doesn't include toast. The potato and pumpkin rosti is there in its place and does its job nicely. There was perhaps a little too much salt in the dish, but overall it was tasty, and I felt good about eating my greens.

The chowdown is a more epic dish, perfect for those with an appetite, or those who are like my dad and just can't go past a big brekky if the option is there. The verdict? Presentation is spot-on, and the dish includes that same potato and pumpkin rosti - the best rosti ever, according to my breakfast companion. Containing both kaiserfleisch bacon and chorizo, this one ticks all the boxes.

Next time you're travelling on the 86 tram, why not visit two:bob for a foolproof brekky, and a little look at the Queens Parade shops afterwards.
