For two days in December, at the height of the Christmas shopping season, two of London's busiest streets will say
NO to cars, buses and taxis, and
YES to shoppers.
The traffic-free event takes place on
Regent Street and
Oxford Street on the weekend of the 10th and 11th of December, and gives visitors the opportunity to shop without the fear of being shoved off a busy pavement into the path of an oncoming bus.
And with some 40 millions shoppers from all over the world set to descend on London's West End during the run up to Christmas, you can imagine just how crowded those pavements can become.
The unique weekend will see lots of live entertainment along the pedestrianised streets, including shows by street performers as well as a number of live music events.
Many stores along the two iconic shopping streets will be offering a range of festive goodies during over the weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for special offers and such like.
In previous years, the special traffic-free weekend has seen some stores giving away free glasses of champagne to visitors. Other treats such as mulled wine, mince pies, gingerbread cookies and roasted chestnuts have also been offered to shoppers. Some lucky people even got free manicures, massages and beauty makeovers.
Retail giants line both shopping streets - think Apple, Benetton, Hamleys toy shop, Selfridges, French Connection, The Disney Store, John Lewis, Nike Town, Top Shop and Top Man.
The special weekend is all set to be great fun for the entire family, and brings to
Regent Street and
Oxford Street a special festive atmosphere in relaxed, car-free surroundings.
Enjoy the freedom of two of the world's most famous shopping streets without the worry of heavy traffic rolling by. And the air should be a whole lot cleaner too!
