Want to meet some locals? Hang out and meet real Thai people and eat what real Thais eat? Here's a suggestion for a great local bar and restaurant with live music, atmosphere and great food at local prices.
Toy Stories might be an unusual name for a bar or restaurant but a lot of effort has been put into the over all ambience and atmosphere. Rather than being dominated by big TV screens as many bars are, Toy Stories is set out with big tables for groups of friends. The indoor area is intimate and welcoming and the outdoor area sits along the road but is set back enough that the traffic doesn't disturb.
The main event is the food, and the company. When Thais drink, they order a lot of food to share, and that's the focus here. Grilled fish and pork is a highlight as well as spicy Thai salads and great cocktail specials.
Any night of the week the bar can be busy, and late at night it's pumping. Remarkably Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are ladies nights with free flow cocktails from 7 until 10pm. Lucky ladies.
If you want to meet real Thai people, this is a great place to start, but be warned they're probably going to take you to a club afterwards, so be prepared to be up until the wee hours.
