While all right-thinking people dream of being paid to
deal drugs,
commit assault and
defecate in hotel corridors, sadly not all of us can be professional rugby league players. Thankfully, though, there is a fallback option:
touch football.
There could be few more enjoyable ways to make friends and stay in shape. And with competitions scattered throughout Sydney, fun and fitness doesn't have to come at the expense of convenience.
Games are contested by teams of six (plus substitutes). Because a player is deemed to be tackled when they are touched, this is a sport that can be enjoyed by males and females, big and small alike. As in league, teams have six possessions in which to score. While each competition has its own rules, it is typical for games to last for 40 minutes, teams to be mixed and substitutions to be unlimited.
Again, times and costs vary from place to place, but you can expect to pay about $50-75 per season, and to play on weeknights. With new competitions starting every few months, you shouldn't have to wait too long to lace up the sneakers.
