To see a performance by Cirque du Soleil is to engage in a stunning, enriching, voluptuous edge-or-your-seat performance. EricaL had reviewed the performance here.

The performers and what they can do with their bodies defies what one believes the human body is capable of. The costume are breath-taking and the music is vibrant and all enveloping. No-one forgets such a night out under the big top.

The company had humble beginnings when it started in 1984 with a group of just 20 street performers. From such unassuming beginnings Cirque du Soleil evolved into a major global organisation, with over 4,000 employees and shows that now tour the world.

TOTEM is one of their many performances but also their most ambitious production to date. Since its World Premiere in 2010, over 3 million people across 25 major worldwide cities have seen TOTEM and have been totally mesmerised by this outstanding theatrical performance.

The show was also the winner of the 2013 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.

The cast includes 45 acrobats, musicians. actors, and singers. You will not just laugh at some of the comedy but also be deeply moved by a number of the acts.

You will certainly be overawed by the athleticism of the performers and enthralled by the stunning visual effects.

TOTEM, tells of the miraculous journey of the human species from its amphibian state to its need to take to the air. They include an opening act where frog-people leap between high bars, a roller skating "wedding" performed on a tiny platform at whizzing speed, and a troupe of Chinese acrobats riding seven foot tall unicycles. And if this weren't enough they also manage to kick bowls from their feet to their heads, and then to each other's heads as they do so.

All done to electrifying music and coloured lights.

Anyone interested in myths will also be fascinated by this show as the production was inspired by many creation myths. The stage evokes a giant turtle, which was the symbol of origin in many ancient civilisations.
While tickets are at a premium sometimes it is worth waiting until things calm down for cheaper ticket prices. You can also keep an eye on some of the cheaper priced theatre ticket sites.
