Eltham Fun Run
The 31st Eltham Fun Run will be held on 23rd of March and boasts celebrity appearances such as the green and pink teams from The Biggest Loser, as well as Tristan Miller, the guy who ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks in 42 countries. There are 5km run/walk and 10km run options to suit all fitness levels and prizes for the first three runners to cross the line from each age group.

Come and support this fundraiser for YMCA Open Doors Program which assists those who would not usually be able to access the leisure centre. For inspiration or more information here is the website .

Diamond Valley Miniature Railway
The miniature railway is a Sunday outing for younger kids or adults who remain kids at heart. Travelling through bridges and curving through the trees, this ride lasts for about twenty minutes and won't break the bank at only $3 per head and children under two ride free. The new Butterfly playground is nearby, it is not only heaps of fun but also has educational posts throughout the playground about the Eltham Copper Butterfly. There is an oval that's great for a kick of the footy after and barbecues available for a lunch or dinner in the park. Eltham - Heidelberg bike track
Eltham is a very picturesque town with big gum trees and plenty of lush parks to ride through on a sunny day. Pack a picnic and a large water bottle and ride from Eltham station out to Westerfolds park or even further. Rollerblading at Skaterz
The Eltham Rollerblading rink was a highlight of my childhood with many friends' birthday parties celebrated here. Skating round and round, testing how fast you can go without crashing into walls or tripping over yourself is all part of the experience. Or for beginners there is a rail around the whole rink to keep you up right. There's music to keep you moving and games and special laps to break it up now and then. Bring your own lunch to keep the cost down, but an ice-cream or a bowl of hot chips can make the experience special. Hire skates and at a reasonable price and don't forget to bring a pair of socks! The Light Factory Art Gallery
This gallery hosts a range of local artists from painters, illustrators, photographers and sculptors. There is currently an exhibition including local Aboriginal art which is on display until March 30th. While it is a small space, the artwork is always worth your time and the natural lighting and quiet atmosphere creates a relaxing space for thinking. Next door is the Tea House Cafe which has a range of freshly made cakes and scones and comfy couches galore.

The Eltham Library
This library, designed by Alister Knox, is central to the culture of Eltham. With a huge range of books and DVDs, the library is frequented by many as a place to relax and be educated. There are comfy couches and a fire place to read by, as well as a range of local art displayed in the reading lounge.

This library specialises in French and German, so find a book or two to improve your language skills before you read a guide on travelling in Europe. There are also many programs to get involved with such as the Chess Club, Book Clubs, Toddler Time and First Friday Chat for Seniors.
